This weekend’s edition of Reggae Kafe on Max 89.7FM presents yet another exciting session with BIG reggae tunes, spiced up with a doubleheader of interviews for the listening pleasure of fans of Ghana’s biggest reggae platform on the radio.
Veteran Host, DJ, and Reggae hawk, Heavy D, (the Heavolution man), welcomes Ghanaian Reggae star, Blakk Rasta to Max FM’s studios on Saturday, for an up-close-and-personal chat about his new album, his mission, what makes him tick, and what the future holds for reggae in Ghana.

Expect fireworks and some controversy as the outspoken Pan-Africanist, Dub Poet, Radio Show host, philanthropist, and social activist take his turn in the dub seat. ‘Barack Obama,‘ arguably Blakk Rasta’s most popular song, was in honor of the 44th and 1st black President of the USA. He was honored at a special dinner with President Obama on 11 July 2010.
On the same bill, Mikal Asher, international Reggae star and brother of the late Denroy Morgan (R.I.P), joins Heavy D, via zoom, to pay tribute to the recently deceased patriarch of the Morgan Heritage family. Denroy Morgan, the Jamaican-born American father of the siblings who make up the group, passed on to glory aged 65 in his home in Lawrenceville, Georgia – USA, on Thursday, 3rd March 2022.
A celebrated Reggae legend himself, Denroy moved to the United States of America in 1965, aged 19, to embark on a musical career that spanned five-plus decades, and spawned his patriarchy of a family of musicians, that includes reggae group Morgan Heritage and LMS (a dancehall/hip-hop band), as well as other solo acts, all made of his children.
Reggae Kafé is a 2hr30 minute Saturday evening omnibus Reggae show on Max89.7FM that takes listeners on a journey of Irie vibes, wafting through old school Roots and other popular sub-genres of vintage Reggae music, from Ragga through Dancehall to home-grown hits churned out by Ghanaian and African Reggae stars, old and new.
