Real Madrid legend Marcelo sent off for dislocating opponent’s knee

By Michael Mensah Martey

During a Copa Libertadores game on Tuesday in Buenos Aires, Brazilian left-back Marcelo made a poor tackle on Argentinos Juniors defender Luciano Sanchez, age 29.

Technical staff at Argentinos Juniors initially thought he had broken his leg, but a club-released medical report stated that it was a full dislocation of the knee.

The Argentinean screamed on the field while being surrounded by worried players from both teams when the former Real Madrid star was sent off in tears. The incident happened in the 56th minute of the game, which ended in a draw.
‘I lived a very tough moment on the pitch today,’ Marcelo said on social media. ‘With no intention I injured a fellow footballer. I want to wish you the best possible recovery, Luciano Sanchez.’
