#Paris2024: Saminu, Azamati book 100m semis spot

Ghanaian sprinters Rashid Sulemana and Benjamin Azamati advanced to the semifinals of the men’s 100m in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Azamati finished second behind Jamaican Kishane Thompson in the first heat of round one, while Rasheed Saminu finished third in the fifth heat of Saturday morning with a time of 10.06.

The Ghanaians join fellow Africans Emmanuel Eseme (Cameroon), Letsile Tebogo (Bostwana), Kainsola Ajayi, Favour Ashe (Nigeria), Akani Simbine (South Africa), Benjamin Richardson, Shawn Maswanganyi (South Africa), and Ferdinan Omanyala (Kenya).

In the semifinal on Sunday, August 4, Azamati will race against fellow Africans Shawn Maswanganyi, Favour Ashe, Emmanuel Eseme, Jamaica’s Oblique Seville, Italy’s Chituru Ali, Britain’s Loui Hinchlifee, and Australia’s Rikkoi Brathwaite.

Saminu goes against Kishane Thompson and seven others fighting for a spot in the finals.

The first two in each heat qualify, followed by the next two fastest sprinters.
