France football legend Thierry Henry would become one of the few to lead Les Bleus to Olympic gold as a former FIFA World Cup winner after a super 3-1 victory over the Pharaohs of Egypt after extra time.

Crystal Palace center-forward Jean-Philippe Mateta bagged a brace as France came from a goal down to secure qualification to the final of the men’s football event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Mateta scored a late leveller for the host nation after Mahmoud Saber shot the Eyptians into the lead after 62 minutes of action.

With four minutes left until the end of the first half of extra time, a header from Bade from Micahel Olise’s cross found its way to Mateta, who took his chance expertly to send the Groupama Stadium in Lyon in a jubilant mood.

Olise wrapped the game up three minutes into the second half as he netted the final goal of the game as a deflection on Abelmaguid fell kindly onto his path to set up a classic clash against Spain in the final.
