MAX TV’S U-23 AFCON UPDATES: Ghana’s Tanko satisfied with officiating despite heavy loss to Morocco

By Michael Mensah Martey

Coach Ibrahim Tanko has expressed his satisfaction with the officiating at the ongoing U23 AFCON tournament in Morocco.

However, Tanko’s team suffered a heavy defeat in their second group A game against the host country, Morocco, with a scoreline of 5-1. This loss has diminished their chances of progressing to the semifinals.

While some Ghanaians have raised concerns about the performance of referee Patrice Tanguay, who officiated the Morocco-Ghana match, Tanko believes that the officiating has been good overall in the tournament. He mentioned that the referees had the support of a VAR (Video Assistant Referee), and he thinks that the decisions made by the officials were acceptable.

Ghana’s U23 team now faces a must-win situation in their upcoming match against Guinea. If they fail to secure a victory, they will be eliminated from the U23 AFCON at the group stage, and consequently, they will miss out on qualifying for the Olympic Games.
