MAX TV’S U-23 AFCON UPDATES: Morocco thrash Ghana 5-1 in Rabat

The host nation, Morocco, secured a convincing 5-1 victory over Ghana at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Tuesday night.

With this win, Morocco became the first team to qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament. Morocco dominated the game, taking a 3-1 lead at halftime.

Ghana tried to make a comeback in the second half but left their defense vulnerable, allowing Morocco to capitalize on counter-attacks and score two more goals. The victory ensures Morocco’s place in the tournament’s semi-finals.

Black Meteors, was initially at the top of the group standings after the first round of games in the CAF U23 Africa Cup of Nations tournament. However, following their defeat against Morocco, they have now dropped to third place in the group.

To have a chance of progressing to the knockout stage of the tournament, Ghana will need to win their final group game against Guinea. The match is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 30, 2023. This upcoming match is crucial for Ghana, as a victory would increase their chances of advancing to the knockout stage.
