MAX TV’S U-23 AFCON UPDATES: Morocco beat Guinea in opener (VIDEO)

By Michael Mensah Martey

The Atlas Lions of Morocco can consider themselves extremely fortunate for their comeback win of 2-1 against the National Elephants of Guinea at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
After being stunned by Algassime Bah’s free-kick goal just before half-time, Morocco changed their approach in the second half.

Morocco’s comeback began when Abde Ezzalzouli, the Barcelona winger, cleverly outwitted Guinean defender Cisse, who committed a foul and conceded a penalty. Ezzalzouli confidently converted the penalty in the 68th minute, leveling the score for the host nation.

Controversy arose when VAR (Video Assistant Referee) came into play. Despite an inconclusive decision, the referee awarded a second penalty to Morocco after the team claimed a handball in the penalty box. Once again, captain Ezzalzouli stepped up and successfully deceived Guinea’s goalkeeper, Mory Keita, to give Morocco the lead.

The game continued to be filled with drama as VAR was called upon again. The Guineans thought they had equalized, but the goal was disallowed due to a handball by their team.

After this intense encounter, Ghana is set to face Morocco on Tuesday, June 27. Prior to that, Ghana will take on Congo at 3 pm on Sunday, June 25, in a match that will be broadcast live on Max TV.
