On Saturday, July 29, 2023, the National Theatre in Accra was jam-packed with people to see the eagerly awaited stage production “The Dilemma of a Ghost.”
Ato Yawson, a Ghanaian man, and his American wife, Eulalie, return from the United States in the drama written by the renowned late Ghanaian playwright Ama Ata Aidoo. Their marriage is strained by their cultural differences, and they need to find a way to reconcile their two different worlds.
Top actors from Ghana, including Fred Amugi, Adjetey Anang, Fiifi Coleman, Brew Riverson Jr., and Naa Ashorkor, were cast in the Fiifi Coleman Productions-produced production.
The crowd was enthralled by the plot, and the performances were superb. The play was originally scheduled for two viewings, but three viewings had to be held because of the huge attendance of the audience and the line of people waiting outside.
The production was a critical and commercial success and will undoubtedly go down in Ghanaian theater history as one of the season’s high points.
