Talented comedian Genesis has called on the government to invest in the comedy sector to enhance the full potential of comedians while helping the sector grow.
According to him, Ghanaian comedy would advance and gain global attention if the required financing and attention were committed.
Speaking exclusively with Max Morning Dew in Accra on Friday, the stand-up comedian noted that comedians have worked hard to gain acceptance; the onus was then left for the industry players to step up and consolidate their efforts.
“Ghana, we don’t have the market. We need the government to invest, and that is what happened in Nigeria; there was serious investment in the industry,” he said.
Genesis stated that there were talents in the industry, and if the necessary resources were invested in the comedy craft, the sector could attract many talents and generate money.
That, he believed, could drastically bring down the unemployment and dependency rates in the country.
“Investments should not only be in the form of funding but also make sure there are avenues for performers to hone their talents,” Genesis added.
