Inflation pushed nearly 850,000 Ghanaians into poverty in 2022 – World Bank Report

By Michael Mensah Martey

A recent World Bank research claims that by the end of 2022 year, nearly 850,000 Ghanaians were living in poverty.

In 2022, Ghana’s inflation skyrocketed to a 30-year high, reaching a peak of 54.1% in December.

However, the World Bank claims to work with the Ghana Statistical Service and has learned that 850,000 individuals were driven below the poverty line as a result of the country’s spiraling inflation.

At the end of 2022, a quarter of the population was estimated to be food insecure, which was greatly aggravated by high inflation.
