Epiphany Warriors achieved a historic treble by defeating Halifax Ladies 3-1 in a penalty shootout in the Greater Accra Football Association’s (GARFA) Women’s Division One Champion of Champions final at Accra Sports Stadium.
Halifax Ladies took the lead in the 44th minute through Rita Doku’s well-placed shot. Epiphany Warriors responded swiftly after halftime, with Salma Sai Jibril scoring a superb equalizer just eight minutes into the second half.
Despite both teams creating numerous opportunities, neither managed to break the deadlock during regulation time, leading the match directly into a penalty shootout.
Epiphany Warriors faced an early setback when substitute striker Leticia Adjei missed their first penalty kick. However, Halifax Ladies failed to capitalize on their subsequent three spot kicks, allowing Epiphany Warriors to seize the advantage.
The victory was sealed when Captain Gifty Acheampong confidently converted Epiphany Warriors’ fifth penalty kick. This triumph marked Epiphany Warriors’ second consecutive GARFA Division One Champion of Champions title and completed a historic treble, having previously clinched their Division 1 group title and the GFA Southern Zone Middle League.
Next season, Epiphany Warriors will compete in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, aiming to challenge the top female teams in the division. Their impressive run includes reaching the semifinals of the 2023/24 Women’s FA Cup, highlighting their determination to continue their winning streak at the highest level of women’s football.
