IFFHS’ African Club of the 20th Century, Asante Kotoko, suffered a damaging 1-0 defeat at Samraboi on match week 10 of the BetPawa Premier League at the hands of FC Samartex 1996.
The 2-time CAF Champions League winners, Kotoko, went into the game needing to recover from a frustrating defeat.
Emmanuel Keyekeh’s well-struck freekick in the 31st minute of the crunch encounter turned out to be the only goal of the match.
Danlad Ibrahim, the goalkeeper for Kotoko, had been excellent in the early exchanges of the game before conceding that stunning effort by Keyekeh.
Dr. Ogum’s men returned to the second half needing to get back into the game, but Samartex remained compact and solid defensively.
The Porcupine Warriors have now lost their third game in a row, having lost to Nsoatreman and Dreams FC before meeting FC Samartex, leaving them fourth from bottom on the league standings while Samartex moved up to second place.
