Dr. Tony Aubyn : Delayed Black Stars squad a technical reason

By Henrycobblah

The delay in revealing the Black Stars team ahead of the vital World Cup play-off against Nigeria, according to Dr. Tony Aubyn, an Executive Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), is due to “technical reasons.”

In a two-legged match, Ghana’s Black Stars face Nigeria’s Super Eagles, with the victor earning a place in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Qatar from November to December.

On March 25, 2022, the three-time World Cup finalist hosts Nigeria, with the rematch taking place on March 29 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

Despite their opponent announcing their team earlier this month on March 4, 2022, Ghana is yet to do so with 16 days to go before the match.

But, according to Tony Aubynn, the management committee’s decision to postpone the squad release is for the team’s own interest.

Speaking to an Accra-based FM station, he said “The reason why the squad has not been released is a technical decision backed by management. we recently formed the technical team and the management team and I’m sure they have a reason why and they have their own timelines. It is for a good reason,” he told Star FM.

Despite being a member of the EXCO, the former Director of Corporate Affairs of Tullow Ghana Limited also stated that he has no clue when the team would be released, but is hopeful that it will be announced soon.

“I cannot explain even though I’m in the EXCO. We have given the responsibility to the technical team. I believe that the squad will be announced soon and I can’t tell how soon because I don’t know the time line,” he noted.
