Ampem Darkoa Ladies, Ghana Women’s Premier League champions, received a generous boost of 500,000 Ghana cedis from President Nana Akufo-Addo for their upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League campaign.
On Wednesday, October 25, the Techiman-based team paid a courtesy visit to the President, showcasing their determination and seeking goodwill as they gear up for continental competition.
Leading the delegation were notable figures including Greater Accra Regional Football Association Chairman, Samuel Aboabire, Ghana Football Association Executive Council Member Eugene Noel, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Evans Opoku Bobie, and Bono East Regional Minister, Kwasi Adu Gyan.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies shared the news on social media, expressing gratitude for the substantial financial backing provided by the President.
Securing their spot in the competition with a remarkable 1-0 victory over Nigeria’s Delta Queens in the final of the WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifiers, Ampem Darkoa Ladies are set to become the second Ghanaian team to compete in the CAF Women’s Champions League, following Hasaacas Ladies’ participation in the inaugural edition in 2021.
The highly anticipated third edition of the tournament is set to take place from November 5 to 19, 2023, in Ivory Coast.
