Let’s be honest here. Francis N’Gannou really made Africa proud in his very first full-competitive boxing fight.
After the massive show in Riyadh, attention now shifts to December, when we will witness the next big showdown between Tyson Fury V Oleksandr Usyk
For now, we can still reflect on a beautiful contest in which Tyson Fury was dropped in round 3, much to the surprise of many pundits.
But the truth of the matter is that the boxing lords would never allow their champ to be taken to the cleaners by someone (an African MMA fighter) who was just fighting his first full boxing bout.
It simply would not look good for boxing. Ngannou surprised everyone. Just look at the way the second judge scored the contest, 96-98. Ridiculous, if you ask me.
The hundreds of millions involved and the huge global audience meant that Fury had to win for the PR and perhaps betting gurus to be happy.
Let’s not forget the big fight coming up for the Gypsy King in December.
The boxing aristocracy did not want a blemished Fury record leading up to that.
This was a non-title bout, so for the brand, the result is alright and everyone gets paid.
But the court of public opinion and the majority of the independent media know who won the duel in Riyadh.
December is just around the corner and will be equally massive!
95-94: Ngannou.
96-93: Fury.
95-94: Fury.
