Henry Asante Twum, the Communication Director of the Ghana Football Association, has welcomed the proposals of the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama.
H.E. Mahama, who is seeking to be re-elected as the President of Ghana once more, stated his government will form a collaboration with the Ghana Football Association to revive the ailing Ghana football, should he return to the Flagstaff House.
“We just came from the Africa Cup of Nations, and we performed abysmally, disastrously. and we performed abysmally because we are not growing our football, so we are going to work with the football association to start catching them young so we can train them and give them to local teams. They will play and get experience before they will even travel abroad,” he said.
The GFA’s spokesperson expressed his happiness at the comments of the ex-president in a conversation with max.com.gh on Tuesday morning but disclosed that no government since the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s made a conscious effort to invest in the game.
“There is a lot of wisdom in what he [John Mahama] has said. I will be happy if he would be able to do that. No government since Dr. Kwame Nkrumah has seen the need to invest directly into the game,” said Asante Twum.
