Asante Kotoko’s abysmal performance in the 2023–24 season has prompted a swift reaction from the club patron, Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II.
Following an inconsistent start to the season, with Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum returning to the club for a stint, the Porcupine Warriors ended the first half of the Ghana Premier League season in second place.
At the start of the second half of the season, fans were filled with the hope of winning the league.
However, having only amassed four points from a possible twenty-four, Kotoko have plunged to a pitiful eleventh place in the Ghana Premier League, with a possible relegation staring right at them.
Otumfuor made it known in a crucial meeting at the Manhyia Palace on Thursday, April 18, 2024, that he would prefer to see his beloved club disbanded than suffer relegation.
This gut-piercing statement must have stirred up something as the playing body promised His Majesty they would improve, and that also means fully backing their head coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum.
The Asante King also assured if the coach is the problem then he will do the needful.
“Prove to me that you are capable and if the coach is the problem, then i will take a decision on him. But for now, make sure you go and play and win.”
Now that Ogum has the full trust of the club patron, who convinced him to return, what will happen next?
Will the fortunes of the team turn around for good as they prepare to face in-form league leaders FC Samartex over the weekend?
All eyes will be on StarTimes Adepa, channel 247, on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 2 p.m.
