ACCRA LIONS 1-2 HEARTS OF OAK: Issah and Amponsah end Hearts’ winless run

By Michael Mensah Martey

In the Accra derby on Tuesday afternoon, Hearts of Oak, who are without a substantive head coach, produced a convincing victory over Accra Lions in matchweek 11 of the BetPawa Premier League.

With just six minutes into the first half, the top scorer for Hearts of Oak, Hamza Issah, leapt highest to head home a well-delivered cross from Salifu Ibrahim to stun the home side.

However, Accra Lions recovered just in time when Abass Samaris grabbed a fortuitous equalizer when his weak header deflected off Kofi Agbesimah in the 26th minute.

The Phobians were in control of play for the majority of the second half, and just when it seemed points would be shared amongst both sides, Raphael Amponsah stepped up to score his first goal for the club.

Hamza Issah did so well to hold on to the ball and set up his teammate, who fired home with a beautiful curling strike to end Hearts of Oak’s winless run and move them ninth on the league table with 15 points.
