2026 FIFA WC QUALIFIERS: Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan top Group B

By Michael Mensah Martey

Former Black Stars coach, James Kwesi Appiah, has led Sudan to victory over Democratic Republic of the Congo, in matchday two of the FIFA 2026 World Cup African qualifiers.

After a fiercely contested match, Sudan prevailed 1-0 thanks to an own goal in the 79th minute, igniting the coach’s mission in Sudan.

The 63-year-old had a slow start to the season on Thursday when he picked up a point in a 1-1 draw with Togo at the Martrys of February Stadium in Benghazi, Libya.

While they wait for Senegal’s matchup with Togo on Tuesday, Sudan is presently leading Group B.
