The Black Starlets of Ghana have secured a semi-final berth at this year’s WAFU Zone B tournament following an impressive win over Benin at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.
In matchday two of Group A, Ghana’s head coach, Laryea Kignston, emphasized prior to kickoff that his team will not underestimate their Beninoise rivals.
Godfred Sarpong cleverly snatched the ball from a Benin center-back and put it in the path of Joseph Narbi, who moved quickly. Kagawa Mensah was waiting for him in the penalty area, where he delicately dinked the ball over the goalkeeper to score Ghana’s first goal.
Theophilus Ayamga, wearing a number ten shirt, completed a superb 27-pass play to score Ghana’s second goal of the match.
The Black Starlets made sure they advanced to the next stage of the competition by controlling the second half through effective possession play and fending off Benin’s attacks.
