Black Stars defender Jerome Opoku has revealed he was subjected to a number of verbal acts of racist abuse in the Istanbul Basaksehir 1-0 away loss to Beskitas in the Turkiye Super League on Sunday.
Much of this abuse came following an unfortunate incident in which a Besiktas player was hurt. It appeared to be an accident, as the Ghanaian player would later claim in a Twitter post that it was “completely unintentional.”
Congolese international, Jackson Muleka, got the only goal of the game to give his and Daniel Amartey’s side a precious win in their bid to move to the European qualification places.
The win moves Besiktas to 5th on the Turkish Super League as Istanbul Basaksehir fall into the relegation zone.
I’ve received a lot of racist comments from this incident that occurred in today’s game which is not right .This was completely unintentional from me. Sorry brother , I’m wishing you a speedy recovery ❤️🩹🙏🏿 https://t.co/qPlnZyc4oq
