Thomas Partey, a Ghanaian midfielder, claims that Nigeria’s game changes whenever they meet Ghana in any tournament, ahead of their 2022 World Cup playoff later this month.
The two bitter rivals will renew their feud when they meet in a two-legged play-off, with the victor earning a place to the World Cup in the Gulf state later this year.
Ghana was eliminated in the group stages of the recent African Cup of Nations event in Cameroon, whereas Nigeria, who performed brilliantly, was eliminated in the round of 16.
On March 25, 2022, Ghana will host Nigeria at the Cape Coast Stadium, with the rematch taking place on March 29, 2022, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
In the absence of regular captain Andre Ayew, who is suspended, Thomas Partey is anticipated to wear the captain’s armband.
The Arsenal midfielder has been in excellent form, collecting Arsenal’s player of the month award for February and scoring in Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Leicester.
In a brief video shared on social media, he stated that each match between the two countries is always a classic, especially for Nigerians.
“You know your team plays differently when it’s Ghana. So we know what to expect and it means we will also be at our best possible for both games. The game will be decided over two legs hence no need for much talk”, he said.
