The Kiwi with Nigerian ancestry, who recently lost his title, is in legal peril after being arrested for drunk driving in New Zealand.
The incident occurred three weeks in August, three weeks before his defeat against Sean Strickland. The American defeated Adesanya in the main event of UFC 293 and caused him to lose his Middleweight title.
Adesanya was accused of driving while having 87 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood in his system. In New Zealand, 50 milligrams per 100 milliliters of blood constitutes the legal limit.
Due to the incident, Adesanya may serve time in jail. The maximum punishment is a fine of $4,500 or three months in prison.
