Why concert party collapsed - Dr Abusua

Renowned comedian Joseph Okyere, known by his stage name Dr. Abusua, has blamed the disunity among comedians and those in the creative arts sector as the reason concert party in the country collapsed.

According to him, if comedians stay united and the people in the sector support them, the concert party will bounce back.

Speaking in an interview with Max Morning Show in Accra on Friday, Dr. Abusua explained that the concert party brought relief to so many people and helped many young comedians gain a platform to showcase their talents.

He said a concert party was a big platform in the 90s and 2000s for every talented person to exhibit his or her talent for a greater opportunity.

For the concert party to be revived, Dr. Abusua called for stakeholder support to propel comedians to gain platforms, helping them make the concert industry appealing.

“If Max TV is organizing a concert party and other organizations are also supporting it, you will see comedians come in their numbers to perform, and this will revive the industry,” he added.

Dr. Abusua also shot down claims that the advent of movies or filming collapsed the country’s concert industry, stressing that “comedians and actors of concert parties were actually wanting to venture into the movie industry.”

That, he said, created another money-making avenue for them to explore.
