The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Darling Records, Mimi Andani, has revealed that Naana Blu breached a 10-year contract with her label and signed with another label.
According to her, she rescinded her decision to sue for breaking their contract after some acquaintances pleaded on the singer’s behalf.
Speaking in an interview, Mimi said the culture of Ghana had crippled most of them from pursuing issues that needed to be addressed.
“If I took the girl on, I’d break her into pieces. She would pay to her bone. Our culture really sometimes cripples us because I couldn’t do anything to her based on the calls.
“People begging me saying ‘you would destroy her life and all’. If I take her on, she will pay that money. I’m going to win that case,” she said.
It could be recalled that Naana Blu left Darling Records in 2020, claiming that the management had terminated her contract since the label’s plans had changed.
However, the Darling Record boss vehemently denied the allegations, stating that she signed a long-term contract and would not carelessly terminate it.
She indicated that at that time she was building the confidence of her signees to know how to speak in public and maintained their demeanor in order for them not to repeat the mistakes that she made during her hey days in the industry.
“The young artistes were housed, fed, and trained. However, many left because they saw the training as a waste of time when others could release music and become hits overnight,” Mimi said.
She noted that due to the manner in which she was losing a lot of artistes who wanted fame fast, she decided to solely focus on one, Naana Blu, giving her all the expertise she needed.
“I spent a lot more than GH₵200,000 then that’s like five years ago. She recorded six or seven songs. I did three music videos. I wanted it to come out and surprise everybody.
“She was in school then. I planned that ‘I do not want you to lose your education’. It’s important because I know what education has done for me,” she added.
Mimi said after Naana Blu, a then-third-year university student, completed her education, which she would transition into music production, the singer released a song under a new record label without her consent.
She lamented that Naana Blu did not necessarily think about the money she spent on the videos and the songs that they had planned on releasing after her education.
