Gospel artist Celestine Donkor recently issued an apology following backlash sparked by remarks she made during an interview on TV3’s “Today’s Women”.
In the conversation with host Cookie Tee, both Ewes, they lightly discussed the weightiness of Ewe names and expressed interest in names perceived as lighter. However, their banter drew criticism from viewers and social media users who found it inappropriate.
Addressing the backlash on Instagram, Donkor clarified that the comments were intended as jest and not meant to mock Ewe culture. Despite her intentions, she expressed regret, acknowledging that the remarks were ill-received and describing them as “an expensive joke”.
She emphasized her fallibility as a human and the challenges of public speaking, stating that despite good intentions, not everything said may be pleasing to everyone.
