In the Total Energies U23 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023, the Congo U23 team suffered a 3-2 defeat against Ghana in a Group A match.
Following the loss, the coach, Cypril Ndonga, attributed the defeat to concentration lapses by his team. He emphasized that at this stage of the tournament, teams cannot afford to have lapses in concentration.
Despite trailing 3-0 after 90 minutes of play, Ndonga’s players managed to score two late goals in added time, which he expressed satisfaction with.
However, he acknowledged that they should have been more alert throughout the game.
Ndonga recognized the competitiveness of their group and the importance of bouncing back from the disappointing result.
He mentioned their previous successes in eliminating Tunisia and South Africa during the qualifying campaign, which had boosted their confidence coming into the tournament.
The Congo U23 team is scheduled to face Guinea in their next match on Tuesday. Both teams will be eager to secure a victory after suffering defeats in their opening matches.
