Residents and revelers in the Ashanti region are eagerly anticipating the upcoming celebration of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s 25th anniversary on the golden stool. This Friday, April 26, 2024, marks twenty-five years since Otumfuo ascended the throne as the sixteenth occupant.
To commemorate the King’s silver jubilee, the anniversary planning committee has organized a series of events, starting with a musical jamboree running from April 22 to 26, 2024. On Monday, April 22, queen mothers from various Asante paramountcies will showcase Asante cuisines at the Manhyia Palace, featuring renowned dishes like Fufu alongside lesser-known delicacies like “Akau” and “Mampong at3ky3”.
Wednesday, April 24, will be a traditional rest day, Awukudae, but will also see the reception of monarchs from across Ghana and other West African royals.
On the eve of the anniversary, Thursday, April 25, the city will be illuminated by magical fireworks at various locations, accompanied by a mega musical carnival. Spectacular pyrotechnics will light up spots including Jubilee Park, Heroes Park, Manhyia, Tafo Community Park, Aboabo, Oforikrom, and Adum City Square, celebrating Otumfuo’s exemplary leadership.
Following the fireworks, renowned Ghanaian musicians will electrify the audience with performances at an all-night jamboree in Jubilee Park.
Friday, April 26, marks the exact day of Otumfuo’s enstoolment in 1999. A non-denominational thanksgiving service will be held to honor ancestors and offer gratitude to God for protection and guidance. Additionally, an official postage stamp will be unveiled.
As the festivities continue, May 6 will commemorate the King’s 75th birthday, leading up to the grand climax of the silver jubilee on May 12 with a Durbar at the Manhyia Palace.
