Accra Hearts of Oak have been handed a tricky opening match of the 2024–25 Ghana Premier League season against newcomers Basake Holy Stars in a draw held at the conference hall of the Ghana Football Association on Monday, July 29, 2024.
The Phobians endured a terrible 2023–24 season in the league after barely escaping demotion to the lower league, finishing just one place off relegation.
Basake Holy Stars’ historic rise from the lower leagues was crowned with a superb promotion to the top division, qualifying ahead of New Edubiase United, Mysterious Dwarfs, and PAC Academy in Zone Two of the Access Bank Division One League.
The Nzema-based debutants will travel to the Accra Sports Stadium to take on Hearts of Oak, whose objective, according to its head coach, Aboubakar Ouattara, is to avoid relegation at all costs in the 2024–25 GPL season.
