Karela United have beaten Asante Kotoko for the second time this season in a matchweek 20 clash in Narilegu after knocking them out of the 2023-24 MTN FA Cup last month in Tamale.
Coach Aboubakri Damba’s boys came so close to grabbing the lead in the 13th minute when Abdul Latif fed an intelligent pass to Solomon Aboagye, who dragged his effort just wide of the goal.
Karela goalie Ganiu Mohammed Abdul was on hand to pull a wonderful stop to Rocky Dwamena’s long-range effort just before halftime.
Ganiu produced a double save at the start of the second half to stop the Porcupine Warriors from taking the lead from a free-kick.
Kotoko were punished for their terrible defending as Black Stars midfielder Richmond Lamptey failed to mark Gayisu Ibrahim, who moved fast from his marker to powerfully head the ball from a corner-kick into the goal to give his side the lead on the hour mark.
Assistant coach of Kotoko, David Ocloo, bemoaned his side’s inability to make good use of their chances in his post-match analysis.
Kotoko will welcome Accra Lions, who defeated Samuel Boadu’s Berekum Chelsea 5-0 in their matchweek 21 clash.
