Former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s wife, Mrs. Theresa Aba Kufuor, passed away at the age of 88.
She passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023, 24 days before she turned 89. On October 25, 1935, Theresa Kufuor (née Mensah) was born. She was a former midwife and nurse.
Her husband, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, was at home when his wife passed away. He had married her the year after they had met at a Republic Day Dance in London when he was 22 years old.
During her tenure in office, Mrs. Kufuor had a major impact and left behind a legacy of grace and devotion to the Ghanaian people. She was also an ardent Roman Catholic.
At the Catholic Convent, OLA, in Keta in Ghana’s Volta Region, Mrs. Kufuor began her formal education. Later, she moved to London, where the Southern Hospital Group of Nursing provided her with the education necessary to become a Registered General Nurse. Scotland’s Edinburgh.
She completed additional training at the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford and Paddington General Hospital in London, earning a Certificate in Premature Nursing and becoming a State Certified Midwife.
She gave birth to five children—J. Addo Kufuor, Nana Ama Gyamfi, Saah Kufuor, Agyekum Kufuor, and Owusu Afriyie Kufuor—with John Kufuor. She passed away as the mother of five children and the grandmother of eight.
