Retired Ghanaian international Prince Tagoe has jibed the president of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt E.S. Okraku, over the ongoing KGL U-17 Championship.
The ‘Prince of Goals’ believes that the KGL U-17 Championship, a development plan run by the GFA with FIFA assistance, isn’t the way forward, even though it’s useful for scouting.
The inter-schools where the top players are developed, he claims, are not reached by the scouting the KGL Championship enjoys. According to Tagoe, some of these players’ guardians forbid them from competing in competitions held outside of their schools.
“The tournament is good, but looking at the competition that produces the best players, I would prefer that he focus more on the inter-school leagues. I think they are much better than some of the selected players for the U-17 tournaments. When they make the measure in schools compulsory to be done every term, it will help.”
“There are very good players who are not allowed to play football outside of school by their parents, so those tournaments will not cover them. So for those people to be involved, the inter-school league should be compulsory for government or private schools to raise more talents,” he asserted on Angel FM.
