The 76-year-old technical director of second-tier side Akosombo Krystal Palace has revealed that he has never signed a contract with any of the clubs he has worked with with the exception of Ebusua Dwarfs.
Sarpong, who has managed top clubs in Ghana including Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak, Liberty Professionals, Aduana Stars among others, believes signing contract with a club ties him down and strains relationships he builds with club owners and football administrators in the West African country.
“Look during my active years in coaching I never signed a contract with any club apart of Ebusua Dwarfs where Nana Aidoo managed to get me to sign a contract. I have always preferred a verbal contract sort of because it frees you all the time and position you in a way to access various opportunities available,” he told Benjamin Willie Graham on The File on GTV Sports+.
The former Abuakwa Susubiribi winger has also managed clubs on the African continent and even had a spell with clubs in Cameroon. And, even away from his homeland he reveals he never committed himself to a contract.
