Ghana’s CAF Confederation Cup representatives Dreams FC’s head coach, Karim Zito, has likened his coaching style to that of Zinedine Zidane and Pep Guardiola, branding the group of coaches as “developmental coaches.”
Karim Zito made history with Dreams FC when they beat Guinean top-flight side Milo FC, 3-2 on aggregate, to qualify for the final qualifying round of the ongoing CAF Confed Cup in their first-ever appearance in the competition, where one more victory could see them book a ticket to the ‘Money Zone, a feat that could be colossal in the club’s history should it be achieved.
An ecstatic Karim Zito, speaking in the post-match interview, lauded his players for the relentless performance they put up during the game. While giving his assessment of the impact he has had on the inexperienced Dreams FC team, the gaffer compared his ability to nurture and develop young talents to that of European top coaches like Zinedine Zidane, Jurgen Klopp, and Pep Guardiola, branding themselves as “developmental coaches.”
“My players have confidence in me, and I also have confidence in them, and this is where developmental coaches are special. Go to Europe and watch Zidane, Klopp, and Pep Guardiola. We are all youth developers, and we don’t fear the opponent’s tactics because we always have something to counter them. When I was the youth coach for Kotoko, Zidane was also the youth technical director at Real Madrid.”
Dreams FC have been drawn against Sierra Leone side Kallon FC in round 2 of the CAF Confederations Cup second-round qualifiers, which have been slated for September 15–17 for the first leg and September 29–October 1 for the second leg, but before the tie, they face Ghana Premier League winners in the Champion of Champions on Sunday, September 3, in the 2023–24 season curtain raiser.
