In a preseason friendly matchup against Neftci Baku on Saturday afternoon in St. Petersburg, Ghanaian international Alexander Djiku made his debut for his new team, Fenerbache.
The 26-year-old center-back officially joined the Turkish powerhouses four days ago, agreeing to a three-year deal with an additional year’s option.
The Black Stars defender wasted no time in joining his teammate in preparation for the upcoming season.
The former Strasbourg made the decision to join Fenerbache despite being courted by Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga and Lille in the French Ligue 1 due to his admiration for the team’s vision.
Djiku started the match from the bench before he was subbed on to replace Serdar Aziz in the 81st minute.
Neftci Baku ended up losing to the Turkish giants Fenerbahce by a score of 1-0 thanks to a solitary strike by new signing, Edin Dzeko.
