Ashantigold in Talks with Ghana FA to Reclaim Status Amid Ban

By Tony Bebli

Ashantigold has disclosed their collaboration with the Ghana Football Association to regain their standing in football.

The former champions of the Ghana Premier League faced suspension by the Ghana FA during the 29th Ordinary Session in Kumasi last year. At the Congress, 67 members favored the continuous suspension of the club, while 17 opposed it.

The Ghana FA immediately suspended Ashantigold under Article 17(1) of the GFA Statutes due to their association with banned officials, Kwaku Frimpong and Emmanuel Frimpong, who were involved in sports betting and alleged match manipulation. This led to the club’s demotion to Division Two.

In a statement, Ashantigold affirmed ongoing discussions with the GFA to reclaim their footballing status. The club urged its loyal supporters to remain patient and optimistic about their return to competitiveness in the upcoming 2024/25 season.
