The Nigerian women’s basketball team’s fairytale run at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games came to an end on Wednesday, August 7, after suffering a disheartening 88-74 loss to the United States of America.
Nigeria became the first African basketball team, be it male or female, to reach the quarterfinals of an Olympic basketball event after shocking Canada in their last match.
D’Tigress, after beating Australia in their opening game, trailed Team USA by nineteen at the end of the second quarter and ended the game fourteen points behind.
In the semifinals, Team USA will face Nigeria’s first opponents, Australia, who dominated Serbia 85-67.
