Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest player! That is according to former Portugal teammate, Jose Fonte, who also asserts the national need to pass on the star’s values.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, since making his international debut for Portugal as a substitute against Kazakhstan in 2003 as an 18-year-old, has been a mainstay in the side.
Ronaldo has become the first European player to participate in six UEFA Euro championships after starting against the Czech Republic.
Fonte, who won Portugal’s first international trophy with the Portuguese captain at the 2016 Euros in France, reckoned the star man’s values need to be passed down to the youngsters in the current ‘A Seleção das Quinas’ side.
“I am so pleased he is still part of the Portugal squad now and still pushing for more. We are lucky to have him and other great players like Pepe who have been there and won everything to pass it on to the younger boys because that knowledge is vital.”
Ronaldo will lead his side against Slovenia in the round of 16 in the 2024 Euros on Monday, July 1, 2024, at 7 p.m.
