In a matchday 24 match in the Ghana Premier League (GPL), Asante Kotoko defeated Hearts of Oak 1-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium .
Asante Kotoko got the opening chance in the game through Moro Ibrahim when he delivered a low drive across the face of goal but there was no one to connect.
The Porcupines , Asante Kotoko continued to press for a goal and were granted a penalty after Brazilian player Fabio Gama was taken down in the box of Hearts of Oak.
Franck Mbella Etougah, a Cameroonian striker, stepped up and fired the ball into the net, sending goalkeeper Richard Ayi in the opposite direction.
Hearts of Oak launched an immediate counter-attack after conceding, but were stopped by Danlad Ibrahim, who had read the situation well.
As Kotoko launched another invasion, the Phobians appeared wobbly in defence, but this time Richard Ayi dealt with it.
Samuel Inkoom made his debut in the game and produced a couple chances for Hearts of Oak, but they were unable to score.
Moro Ibrahim came within inches of scoring as he unleashed a thunderous shot.
The Phobians pushed for a goal in the final minutes of the game, but Danlad stood firm in defense for the Porcupines.
With the win, Kotoko closes the gap on Hearts of Oak to 16 points.
